Frequently Asked Questions
Li-FT is a third party tested, sterile, non acid, high salt concentrate with added orange and lemon seed extract, Aloe Vera, and water. Li-FT is used by trained professionals to safely and effectively lighten/remove any type of unwanted pigment in the skin. From pen ink, Indian ink, body art tattoos, and especially permanent cosmetics. Li-FT works on the theory of “Osmosis” Osmosis is the process by which molecules of a solvent tend to pass through a semipermeable membrane from a less concentrated solution into a more concentrate solution. Achieving the same amount of concentration on each side of the membrane. All tattooed pigments are suspended in the salty body fluids in the skin. These fluids have a lesser concentration of salt than the Li-FT. A trained Li-FT technician uses a high speed tattoo machine or hand held manual tool to poke tiny holes in the tattoo similar to how it was first achieved. The Li-FT solution is applied to perform osmosis to draw old pigment up and out.
No more than 48 hours can pass after an unwanted tattooing procedure for and emergency Li-FT procedure to be preformed. There are still no guarantees all traces of pigment will be removed however, even if only lightened new work can be preformed over the top. The sooner the services is preformed after unwanted totting the better.
Laser: brakes the pigment molecules up and allows them to travel through the body to be excreted.
Li-FT: draws the pigment molecules directly up and out of the body
Laser: laser machines don’t usually have all the wavelengths for all colors so technicians tend to crank up the frequency of the laser to try to remove colors without success. This can cause scaring and loss of natural pigment which can make regimenting difficult or impossible. Lasers remove black ink the best while it is not quite as effective on other lighter colors such as blues greens reds and oranges. This is because different colors demand different wavelengths to break them up. Just like we see color due to the different wavelengths of light. Laser can not identify Titanium (white) pigments. White does not absorb light. So it cannot be targeted by the laser. (Titanium is often found in skin colored pigments used to lighten or camouflage poor work.) Laser can actually turn white pigment black/gray/rusty color which can be permanent.
Li-FT: is color-agnostic, meaning all colors are targeted. Some may just take a bit longer to draw out due to larger molecules in the pigment. Lighter colors are easiest.
Laser: can cause permanent hair loss in the brow area. It is recommended to shave off your natural brow hair before laser is performed which is less than ideal if you have natural eyebrow hair.
Li-FT: will not harm natural brow hair and there is no need to shave the hair off before a lift service is performed.
Laser: tends to be more expensive
Li-FT: tends to be less expensive
Laser: no topical numbing is used. Injectable Lidocaine can be used by some qualified technicians however, some reactions can occur and can interfere with the efficacy of the treatment.
Li-FT: topical numbing is used throughout the procedure
Laser: has an increased risk of blistering the skin and discolouring the natural skin color.
Li-FT: is safe for most skin types and has a lower chance of hypo/hyper pigmentation yet a bit more risk of infection due to the fact it certainly opens the skin.
Laser: protective eye-ware is used
Li-FT: no need for protective eye-ware
Laser: faster procedure time
Li-FT: longer procedure time
Laser: no guarantees
Li-FT: no guarantees
Laser: usually best for body art tattoos
Li-FT: usually best for cosmetic tattoos
Li-FT is safe for all skin types. People who are patient and willing to follow after care instructions are ideal candidates. People expecting immediate results are not good candidates. (For either laser or lift services) Sometimes the area gets
darker before it gets lighter as the color molecules are drawing nearer to the skins surface. If the area to be lightened or removed can not be fully exposed to the air or extremely loosely covered, lift is not a good choice.
In person consultations are not mandatory as long as you read and understand all the FAQ listed under this service.
If you would prefer an in person consultation vs. over the phone, feel free to book one.
It is impossible to say for certain what pain level a person can expect when getting a Li-FT service, as everyone has a different threshold. The good news is topical anesthetics can be used before and during the procedure.
*emergent Li-FT removal tends to be painless as the skin is already open. (Must preform within 48 hours of unwanted tattooing procedure)
After the proper consent forms are understood and filled out, Angela pre cleans the area to be treated. A topical “pre“ anesthetic is applied for the appropriate amount of time to reduce discomfort. Once the first pass of the area to be treated has been completed, a “secondary” aesthetic is applied. Angela will make up to four passes numbing as necessary. Once all passes are completed the lift solution is applied and allowed to rest for 10 minutes and gently wiped away. After care instructions are then explained.
It is critical to follow Aftercare instructions to prevent complications, scaring, and to achieve optimal results.
*Keep area clean and open to the air. Do not cover with any kind of bandage. Oxygen provides good and faster healing.
*Clean by blotting the area with saline 3-4 times a day. You may purchase more of the saline wipes or saline wash and paper towel or gauze that was provided to you.
*Do not soak the treated area in water. You can shower but keep the area out of the spray the best you can and do not let the area stay wet for more than a few minutes. It is best to keep dry, but if you do get it wet gently pat dry.
*Do not use an ice pack on the area.
*No bathing swimming, saunas, hot tubs, tanning or exercise. NO EXCEPTIONS!
*Do not disrupt the scabbing process (i.e.picking/scratching) All scabs must fall off naturally. If you force or pick you will disrupt the process and possibly cause scaring. It is critical to keep the scabs on as long as possible to achieve optimal results. Treat the area with TLC.
*Once all scabs have fallen off, apply one drop of vitamin E oil 3-4 times per day for a minimum of 4 weeks, or until the next lightening session. DO NOT start applying the oil before the scabs fall off.
*If you experience any signs of infection you must seek medical care as soon as possible (at your own expense) Angela is not qualified to diagnose or treat.
It is impossible to say Li-FT will be able to remove all traces of pigment molecules in the skin. It most certainly can significantly lighten them enough and make it possible in most cases to preform new work over the top after the appropriate amount of time for adequate healing of the skin.
It is impossible to say for certain. Typically you can expect visible results in 2-5 sessions. How many sessions depends on how deep the pigment was implanted, the size and location of the area and how much needs to be removed for the desired result.
A minimum of 8 weeks is necessary in-between lightening sessions to give the area adequate time to heal. (Removal of pigment bellow the elbow and knee often times take longer to heal) Larger pieces that need to be broken up into mini
sessions must be done at least three weeks apart. (Areas larger than a deck of cards)
*People with Fitzpatrick skin types V an VI ( brown & black) have a higher risk of hyper and hypo pigmentation than any other skin types.
*Scarring and other skin damages are always a possibility.
*There are no guarantees all traces of pigment will be fully removed.
*There can be minor and temporary bleeding, bruising, redness or other discoloration and swelling.
*Though rare if properly cared for, there is always a chance for infections that warrant a visit to your health care professional to diagnose and treat at your own expense. Angela is not qualified to diagnose or treat such cases.
*The area to be lightened/removed may get darker before getting lighter. This is not abnormal as the pigment is drawing closer to the skins surface.
